GOOD SHEPHERD PARISH, KATHALCHERRA
Brief History: Kathalcherra village was originally under Kumarghat Parish. In 1983, Fr. Hormis, C.S.C. started a School for 30 children from K.G. to Class II. In October 1985, after Fr. Lourthusamy’s arrival, the Fathers bought the land with a small bamboo house and Frs. Hormis and Lourthusamy started residing in the village. In 1986, a Dispensary and a Hostel were started with 30 students. In 1987, St. Peter's Parish was established with Fr. Hormis John as its first Parish Priest. Fr. Joseph Kunnath became the Principal of the School.In 2009, St. Peter’s Parish was rechristened as Good Shepherd Parish. At present, there are Catholics from 14 villages belonging to the tribes of Darlong, Garo, Halam, Reang, Debbarma, Chakma, Tripuri, and Adivasis. There are 2 Hostels for Boys and Girls. The School has classes from Nursery to Class XII.
In 2006, Fr. Mathew Ullattil C.S.C., bought a
land in Chailengta for a School. In November 2014 it was shifted to the present
place. (This Centre became a Parish in
2021.)
In Dumacherra, the villagers started a School
in 1996. After 18 years the villagers requested the Holy Cross to take over the
school completely. So, in 2014, the Holy
Cross Fathers took charge and Fr. Jerome Chorei C.S.C. was its first Principal.

Brief
History: Holy Cross Higher Secondary School,
Kathlacherra has its origins with Fr. Thomas Thengumpally, C.S.C., who had
founded the old Kathalcherra Bengali Medium School. The School and Bethany
Convent were inaugurated by Bishop Denzil D’Souza on 3rd July 1983
with just 30 students from Class KG to Class II. Three years later on 9thSeptember
1986, the new Holy Cross School building was blessed. Later on 16th
April 2008 another two storied building was added. Simultaneously, new Hostels for Boys and Girls
were constructed separately.
Today, Holy Cross School, Kathalcherra has also
given wings to two other Schools, namely, Holy Cross Primary School Dhumacherra
and Holy Cross School Chailengta. The
School at Kathalcherra is a Higher Secondary School recognized by the T.B.S.E.
Board.
